Morgan Day Vaughan is a native West Texan with roots in the farming and ranching community of Terry County. She attended Texas A&M University where she obtained a Political Science degree and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She attended Texas Tech University School of Law graduating with honors in 2007. After graduation, she practiced with a boutique firm in Texarkana, Texas defending complex patent-infringement, products liability, and employment cases in federal court in the Eastern District of Texas. In Arkansas, she defended class action lawsuits in state and federal court. She has experience working on cases from their inception through the appellate process, and has practiced in the Fifth, Eighth, and Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal. Over the course of her fourteen years of practice, she has accumulated extensive trial experience in both state and federal court in a variety of different jurisdictions.
In 2013 Morgan joined the Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, quickly becoming a leader in their civil division. Relying on her background in complex litigation, she defended and prosecuted actions on behalf of Lubbock County in state, federal, and appellate courts across Texas. These litigation matters were wide ranging from immigration related issues to constitutional claims to matters of administrative law.
In addition to maintaining a heavy litigation docket at Lubbock County, she also responded to thousands of open records requests, advised on hundreds of contract issues, and developed expertise in the areas of open government and election law.

She defended law enforcement officers and agencies in litigation and also used that knowledge to provide day-to-day advice to law enforcement on issues of risk prevention, employment, documentation, policy creation, and use of force. She frequently instructed at the Lubbock Police Department Academy, the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Academy, and at the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association on topics related to asset-seizure forfeiture, use of force, supervisor liability, and employment issues in law enforcement agencies. She also taught courses on search and seizure and asset forfeiture at regional conferences of the Texas Narcotics Officers Association.
Additionally, Morgan served on the Civil Committee of the Texas District and County Attorney Association. She has the unique ability to listen to clients and work well with them in both litigation and on day-to-day risk management issues. Her background in both complex litigation and government service pairs well with her common sense outlook. She is committed to serving the legal needs of government agencies, businesses, and individuals. She serves on law enforcement advisory boards and enjoys volunteering with St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
